Sorry for the alt title but seriously USPS needs to get their shit together. On April 18th I purchased a supercharger pulley for the Jaaaag. The seller shipped it on the 20th and it arrived in the US on April 23rd.
And there it sat.
For a month.
With no updates.
I’d been working with the seller this entire time trying to shake it loose and we’d had no luck. RoyalMail told him to contact them on May 27th to make a claim and USPS told me the seller had to file a “international claim”. At no point did anyone offer to just like... check to make sure the package wasn’t lost.
Because it sure was acting like a lost package.
Like... you know, not having any updates for three weeks.
Finally, yesterday, I purchased a new one and paid the extra $30 to have it shipped DHL.
Which, of course, means the “old” one showed up unannounced at 9AM this morning.
Seriously, after I’d signed for it the tracking still said it was in New York. It updated shortly after but with no indication of what happened between NY and OK.
Heh. I guess it seems totally reasonable to travel the 3,442 miles between the origin and NY in a day, but the remaining 1,300 miles take 23 days. That is an average of 56.5 miles per day which is very nearly walking pace.
So yes. I am choosing to believe as a cost cutting measure USPS had someone walk my package from New York to Tulsa.
Well now I guess I need to figure out how to get the old pulley off....

USPS distribution centers have been really short-staffed/overloaded because.. .you know... and I’ve read they specifically have had to de-prioritize any parcels shipped lower than Priority Express unless they’re of something critical.

Yeah, that sucks, and totally unclear what happened. USPS once left two boxes of priority mail stuff for me sitting at IAH for a week for no apparent reason.
In any event here’s something I ordered from the UK last year for comparison (didn’t even realize it was shipping internationally when I ordered, still the best price):
So 6 days to get from being received at the Royal Mail’s export facility to getting to out of USPS’s customs facility and into the regular USPS system.

Covid.
I ordered a gift for my wife, an engraved penny, which was shipped from Michigan to BC on April 5. Made it from Michigan to Chicago in roughly 1 day then sat there without an update until May 1, only confirming it was still in Chicago. Next update was May 11, when it cleared customs in Canada. Blah blah blah, they said it was supposed to be delivered yesterday between 9-1, still isn’t here.
Also ordered parts from Chain Reaction Cycle the beginning of April which haven’t shown up yet either.

Funny you should say that, the tracking I included in my post was a Chain Reaction order...

We have a friend who works at Canada Post as a manager of sorts. S he said that right now with so many people staying home and ordering stuff they’re seeing 5-10x Christmas shipping levels. But they also have a hiring freeze and COVID stuff to manage so they are WAY behind in everything. Can’t imagine the USPS is doing any better.
Sucks about your order. I’ve never worked on a supercharger before... come to think of it, I haven’t worked on a turbo either... huh.

UPS and USPS are inundated. Worse than Christmas and without the extra helpers that get seasonally hired.

I had some plants shipped one day priority USPS. I’ve gotten plants from this seller (Prairie Moon Nursery Moon Nursery, awesome native plants) before and they’re awesome, arrive quick, they only ship when the weather looks good etc...The plants sat in USPS in Newark for a month. Luckily they lived, but still. Its all messed up.

Yeah, I’ve got one of those going right now. Ordered 3 weeks ago, shipped from Ohio 18 days ago.... Scanned in Cincy last night. 18 days from Columbus to Cincy, which is the wrong direction to boot. Go figger

That is quite the coincidence!
